LAWS II

I’m back with so much more for the “Law” writings.  I was fascinated with the explanation under the word “law” in the Bible dictionary.  I’ll be quoting a large bit of it in these writings.

The word “law” in the Ungers Bible Dictionary in Hebrew means: Torah, teaching, instruction; in Greek the word is: “nomos”.  The definition says: “a term employed almost 200 times in the Bible and signifying the revealed will of God with respect to human conduct.  It includes all the Divine commands and precepts for regulating man’s moral life without and within.”  If nothing else Saints, that right there is a “TRUE” reason to read the Bible for ourselves.  Think about it Church, a list of laws to go by for us through God’s Word!  I don’t know about you, but I have times that I’m concerned, confused and simply needing to know what to do with my thoughts and life in this “season” of my life.  I need to “hear” from God, and my “hearing” from God “is” God’s Word. (Hebrews 11:1)  Asking God to reveal to me, through His Spirit “in” me, is how God gives His Children our answers.

O.K., now the Bible Dictionary goes on to expound on God’s Laws.

The word “law” is used in six different senses in Scripture: (I’m condensing here because of the length of the writings.)
Number 1:  That which is enacted by man (Genesis 9:6; Matthew 10:15; Luke 20-22; I Timothy 1:8-10; II Timothy 2:5)
“Law in this aspect embraces that which established human government requires of those under its jurisdiction.”

Number 2:  The Law of Moses
“This was a divinely instituted rule of life mediated through Moses to govern God’s covenant people, Israel, in Canaan.  It regulated their common, everyday conduct and was a covenant of works (Exodus 19: 5-6).  They were never able to keep this covenant and it will be superseded by the New Covenant (Jeremiah 31: 31-34; Hebrews 8: 8-13).  The Mosaic code of laws included ‘The Commandments’ (Exodus 20: 1-17), the ‘Judgments’ stipulating their social life (Exodus 21:1-23; 33) and Ordinances, directing Israel’s worship (Exodus 25: 1-31: 18).  This Mosaic system, including the Ten Commandments as a way of life, came to an end with the death of Christ (John 1:17; Romans 10:4).  The Mosaic age was preceded (Exodus 19:4) and followed (John 1:17) by grace.  In the gracious dispensation inaugurated as the result of the Atonement of Christ, all the Ten Commandments appear in the epistles except that regarding the seventh day and are operative not as stern “thou- shalt-nots”, but as gracious duties and privileges of a redeemed people, possessing the dynamic of the Holy Spirit, willingly and effectively to carry out their injunctions.”

Church, as it says, this law was very strict and very difficult to follow because of sin—un-atoned sin--which Christ, God’s Son, paid for on the Cross.  Think about that Saints!  We are under Grace-God’s Grace!  Not that we should ignore the laws God gave to Israel, but that we should accept by Faith the laws because of God’s Love for us and our love for Him and wanting to please Him in all we think, say, and do!

Well, my fellow believers, in the light of what is happening in these days, I believe these writings on the Laws are so important that I’ve concluded that I will have to have several parts to them so it can complete our thoughts and knowledge on this extremely important subject.  Follow with me in these writings and I believe God will mature us all in His Wisdom.

Remember; reading God’s Word for ourselves is the way God works through us for His Glory and our well-being.  His Spirit “in” us will enlighten us through it all.  As always Church, I will close with four words that need to be LIGHT and LOVE in our hearts:
