And our journey through it.
JUDGING
Jesus in His teaching in Matthew touched on judging to let us know we are not mans judge---God is. We will get ourselves into trouble if we take on the role which is made for God.
Matthew 7:1-5 (Jesus speaking)
“Condemn/judge not, so that you may not be condemned (judged). For according to the sentence you pronounce, you will yourself be convicted; and with the same measure with which you measure, you will be measured.” (F.F.)
Vs. 3 “And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye?”
Vs. 4 “Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck out of your eye’, and look, a plank is in your own eye?”
Vs. 5 “Hypocrite!” “First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck out of your brother’s eye.” (NKJ)
First, let’s go to the Bible dictionary for the meaning of the word ‘judgments of men’ because it includes the verses we have quoted in Matthew 7:1
“The Scriptures recognize it to be necessary that, under proper limitations, men should form and express judgments relative to their fellow-men.
-
There is the necessity of private, unofficial judgment. We must constantly form estimates of the conduct and character of others for our own guidance and safety and usefulness.
“By their fruits ye shall know them.” The prohibition of judging, in Matthew 7:1, is not opposed to this, as must be seen in verses 6, 7 of the same chapter. We are forbidden to usurp God’s place as judge; also to pass rash and unjust and uncharitable and needless judgments.
This means we are to privately and unoficially form estimates of the conduct and character of others for our own guidance and safety and usefulness. We are to judge with the Holy Spirits guidance first and foremost. This is done within ourselves for our self. This “call” is done for our own learning experience. Privately. Because if we open our mouths with a rash or unjust judgment it "will" come back on us. Again we need to by-pass the natural/worldly senses and rely on our spirit with God’s Spirit for guidance. When we rely on the Holy Spirit “in” us, we will know the TRUTH in “ALL” things.
(Judge with righteous judgment. John 7:24 “Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.”)
-
It is also necessary that men should judge officially. Human government is divinely authorized. And the exercise of judicial functions is essential to all government, “All” judges, however, are to remember that they are subject to the judgment of God, and to exercise their office equitably (fair and just) and with due moderation. (see Romans 13:1-5; I Peter 2:13,14).
How many times did God intervene with the disciples when they were judged wrongly? Even in the Old Testament God used Solomon for righteous judgment; when he listened to God’s Spirit. (I Kings 3: 16-27).
The “One Perfect” example we have is Jesus Himself. He was wrongly accused, but He knew God’s will for His life here on earth. What is God’s will for our lives here on earth? That answer is in God’s Word. READ IT FOR YOURSELF UNDER GOD’S GUIDANCE! God’s Joy and Peace comes to us through His Word. Remember:
