GOD'S PROMISES SURE?  YOU BET!

In Genesis chapter 17 God gave Abram a covenant promise.

Genesis 17:5

“No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many nations.”

Unlike man’s promises – God’s Promises are unbreakable and sure, even when in our natural eyes it seems impossible.  Abraham was 100 years old and Sarah his wife was 90 years old, having a child at that age let alone being a father of many nations, in the natural that seems impossible, but God is our Creator and He is Spirit and with God 'All things are possible'; God CANNOT go back on His Word – EVER.

So Abraham and Sarah’s faith were to be tested. Even though Abraham already had a son through Sarah’s hand-maid, the Promise was to be through Abraham and Sarah’s seed.  When Sarah heard about the son she was to have in her old age she laughed in unbelief. (Genesis 18:12) Even Abraham laughed in unbelief (Genesis 17:17). But God’s Promise is Unbreakable.  God has made a Promise to us also.  If we believe on His Son, Jesus Christ, we would be His sons and daughters also and be of His lineage forever.  Now God didn’t leave Abraham on his own after such a Promise, just like He doesn’t leave us alone after His Promise to us.

Genesis 18:17

“And the Lord said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing, since Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?”

Psalm 25:14

“The secret of the Lord is with those who fear (trust-believe) Him, and He will show them His covenant (Promise).”

As His child, God is talking to us constantly, if we listen, as Abraham did, God “will” lead and guide us in “All” things.

Again, I like the way Oswald Chambers wrote about Genesis 18:17:

“True friendship with God means being so intimately in touch with God we need never to ask Him to show us His will. We are God’s will.  And all of your seemingly common sense decisions are actually His Will for you, unless you sense a feeling of restraint brought on by a check in your spirit.  You are free to make decisions in the light of a perfect and delightful friendship with God, knowing that if your decisions are wrong He will lovingly produce that sense of restraint.”

I’ve never thought of being God’s Will. Never needing to ask Him to show me His will!  What a revelation on our communication with God!! Now that is really what our relationship with God ought to be like. A friendship so strong it transcends heaven and earth! Are we “Willing” to do our part in this relationship?  It will take our “yes-will” to make this happen. But it is do-able if we really want it.

The verse in Galatians chapter 2 will help us in our first step in this direction.

Galatians 2:20

“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives “IN” me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God Who loved me and gave Himself for me.”

As a child of God, with God’s Spirit “in” me, I can know God’s will before even asking. My unrestrained commitment of myself to God gives the Holy Spirit the opportunity to grant to me the holiness of Jesus Christ.

I just have to learn to give up self-will and:
