And our journey through it.
Godly and Ungodly
Greetings Church. Today I was drawn to Psalms the first chapter. It is contrasting two ways of life, the godly and the ungodly, because you see; there is actually only two ways of life, the people who believe in and trust in the God Who created them and those who do not.
Matthew 12:30 (Jesus talking)
“He who is not with Me is against Me...”
I believe Jesus is saying that the people who are with Him are the ones who have confessed the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior. Let’s read God’s Word for ourselves:
Psalms 1:1-2
“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly (wicked), nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates (ponders by talking to himself) day and night.”
O. K. Church, the very first sentence of the wonderful Book of Psalms tells us that we can be Blessed by God. (Thank You, Lord) The rest of verse one and two tells us HOW we can be Blessed. We all want to please God; and be Blessed in return; here He is telling us what needs to be done for that to happen.
Listening to people who are not concerned about anything else but themselves, is following with them down that path of selfishness, or sitting in the seat of judgment with them. Letting our minds feed on the negative, unfruitful, evil of the world is how the enemy and our own selfish minds can be led into the ungodly way of life.
Now let’s hear what can happen when we are fixed on God and His unchanging Word of Life.
Psalms 1:2
“But his delight is in the law of the Lord, (Psalms 119: 14, 16, 35) And in His law he meditates day and night.” When our minds are fixed on pleasing our Father and we are happy and content in doing it; we will know His Blessings in our lives.
Psalms 1:3
“He (we) shall be liked a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.”
I’d like to pause here and read the reference verses put with the words for the beginning of that statement in verse 3:
Jeremiah 17: 7-8
“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; but its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit.” That is the Godly Hope for being Blessed.
Verses 4-6 tells us abut the ungodly.
Psalm 1:4-6
“The ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall parish.”
Which “way” will we choose, Church? The chaff which is blown by the wind of the world’s ways; or are we going to be rooted, grounded, and watered in God’s Love for us through His Word and His Law of Life.
Remember Saints, this is an individual decision for each of us. It is our “wills” that says Yes or No to accepting God’s Blessings and Love and Sacrifice for and in our lives.
To the best of my ability through Christ, I want to say “YES” to the Godly life, how about you?
Where do we start? By:
Trusting and Believing in God’s Love for us.
