And our journey through it.
What is the Kingdom Like?
Parables
What a glorious morning, Church! Even though there is a Spring thunder storm right above us and lightening flashing, we are still encircled within His Loving Care. And reading God’s Word is always an uplift of Joy to our hearts.
Today, I was in Luke reading about God’s Kingdom. Pretty awesome wisdom in Jesus’ question and answer in Luke and even more information when we go to Matthew and Mark and we read about the Kingdom there, but let’s have Luke quoted first:
Luke 13: 18-19 (Jesus’ parable words)
“Then He said, “What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it? It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and put in his garden; and it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air nested in its branches.”
Now Saints, the word parable in the dictionary says: ‘A brief story, teaching some moral lesson or TRUTH.’ (page 1405 w.b.e.) (A parable is a means of teaching.)
Jesus taught in parables throughout His ministry. In other words, Church, we can’t understand what is out of our scope to comprehend; something we can’t see, hear, or touch is not understood in our natural minds. For example, Heaven. We know it’s there but we don’t see into God’s Heaven; we just know by Faith that it is there and our Father God is there.
So when Jesus is speaking in a parable He is putting something we don’t know (see, hear or feel) into a story of something we can actually relate to by seeing, hearing or feeling; thus, a mustard seed. The smallest of all seeds when put into the ground and when it is nurtured and watered it turns into a tree! Jesus is telling us about the ‘remarkable outward growth of the kingdom.’
All of Jesus’ Words of parables are teachings and lessons even warnings for us to understand and learn from.
I looked up parable in Ungers Bible Dictionary and it had almost three pages of explanations about that word. It was very interesting, because when we read Jesus’ parables we have to interpret the meaning of the parables. Ungers also has a chart that tells each meaning of all the parables recorded in the Gospels! Now that, Church was fascinating reading! Mathew, Mark and Luke are the three Books that have the parables in them; about 30 in all!
As we read these parables allow our minds to reach Jesus’ Heart with the explanations. It will increase our wisdom and knowledge (Proverbs 2:6) in understanding what the kingdom is all about. Since not everyone has a Ungers Dictionary I hope you will be able to bring up the book on your computer and read the parables for yourself. (pages 825-826 in Ungers Bible Dictionary) A very eye and mind opening experience from God’s Word.
God wants His Children to have a personal, intimate relationship with Him and we can do it by:
