And our journey through it.
WORLDLINESS AND WHAT IT COSTS
Well, Church, we are still in Jesus’ teaching in Matthew and we have come to some very powerful and widely used verses. The last 16 verses in chapter 6 in Matthew has the title as “Wealth” in the NKJ, John Hagee version, but I believe *Ferrar Fenton’s version in Modern English has a greater insight into all of these verses, hence the title “Worldliness and What it Costs.” So if you will permit me I will quote from that version.
Matthew 6:19-21 (Jesus teaching)
Vs.19 “Do not hoard up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and canker destroy, and where thieves may burrow through and steal; but store up your treasure in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroy, and where thieves cannot dig through nor steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will also be.”
Hoarding is a very worldly term and it deals with “self”. It’s the “me” – “I” syndrome from the physical world and deals with the “I want” selfish part of mankind. It is NOT Spiritual in anyway! It doesn’t relate to heaven at all either. We might not be to the extreme of the TV shows about hoarding, where their whole house is filled with animals or things they “BELIEVE” they “HAVE” to have to survive. Their hearts and minds are totally focused on what they “believe” they need and are afraid that someone will take it from them. Most of us are not to that extreme but we still have the mind set of thinking things are a “need” instead of a “want”. God knows what we can handle and what we can’t even when we believe otherwise.
When, as a Child of God, we take our minds and hearts off of the present and worldly things and fix them in the heavenly realm we can actually enjoy the Peace and Love we “will” be experiencing through our spirits now; and then in actuality. That “unspeakable joy” can “NEVER” be taken away from us------EVER!! Thieves can steal “things” but God’s Peace and Love is a “Forever” thing that can’t be stolen by mankind!!
So when our treasure is in heaven with the Father and Son our hearts are encircled with the “Forever” Love of God. Church, that is the treasure we need to be “seeing” in the physical as well as the spiritual right now in these trying times. We need to get rid of our “I want” focus and start thanking the Lord for our needs already being met through His Love, Mercy and Compassion for His Family. When our treasures are set in the “heavenlies” we won’t focus and long for the worldly things that “will” be gone in the very near future.
The cost of worldliness will continue in my next lessons because it hits the saved and unsaved alike and we need to be aware of how the enemy can deceive, trick and kill us when we have our focus off of our God and Creator.
Remember Church:
Trust and Believe God!
