And our journey through it.
Jesus Teaching On Love
Our journey continues as Jesus went up on a mountain as He could better teach His disciples and the multitudes that were following Him. In Matthew chapters 5 through 7 He touched on several TRUTHS of everyday living. He gave a guide-line for how we should treat many incidents that come to us on a daily basis. Like; adultery, divorce, love, retaliation, false and true teaching and so many more. He even gave us how we should pray and the Beatitudes telling us how God is Blessing His Children. I would like to go into as many of these teachings as I can but today I’d like to start with Love.
Matthew 5:43-48 (Jesus talking)
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’
44 “But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,
45 that you may be sons of your Father in Heaven: for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.”
46 “For if you love those who love you what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?”
47 “And if you greet your friends only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the Gentiles do so?” (God’s people are supposed to be set apart.)
48 “Therefore you shall be perfect (mature), just as your Father in Heaven is perfect.”
Even in the Book of Luke it restates this important command:
Luke 6: 27 and 32 also verse 31
27 “But I say to you who hear; Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you.”
32 “But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.”
31 “And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.”
The difference between God’s Love and man-kinds love is very important and very complicated for our physical minds to understand! Mans love is based on emotions; our worldly/earthly emotions. (Which the enemy can easily tap into if we allow him too) And it is usually based on self! Self wants, self needs, self preservations. God is not an emotion---HE IS!! He is Spirit!!
I John 4:8, 16
8 He who does not love does not know God, for GOD IS LOVE!
16 And we have known and believed the Love that God has for us. God is Love , and he who abides in Love abides in God, and God in him!
God gave us that Love through His own Son, Jesus Christ. Now, our part in that Love He gave us, is to use it as God Himself uses it! As in verse 44, ‘Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you and spitefully use you and do good to those who hate you.”
Wait a minute!! Hold on; our minds start to say! I’m not going to put up with someone spitefully using me and not get back at them in retaliation! Self will step up every time and try to take over! Don’t let it!! Take those worldly emotions and wrap them up in a ball and give them to the Lord! That is what He is waiting for you to do! Don’t disappoint Him!!
Say:
Father God, I do not accept these ugly, worldly emotions. I take them and give them to You through Your Son, Jesus Christ, the One Who paid for my sins with His Blood and suffering on the Cross. I ask for Your Love to fill that space up!!
Then allow God’s Peace and Love to fill you up!!!
In verse 45 it states the reason for our actions: So ‘that you/I may be sons/daughters of your/our Father in heaven!’
When we allow God’s Love to flow through us we step above the evil that the enemy is trying to destroy us with! We also have to realize that God makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust!
As for me, I want to be the good and just in this verse, because that shows me and everyone else that God’s Love resides “IN’ me. And to top that off, as it states in verse 48: Therefore you shall be perfect (mature), just as your Father in Heaven is Perfect!
TRUST AND BELIEVE IN GOD
