And our journey through it.
PRAYER
Continuing on with Jesus’ teaching in Matthew, Jesus also touched on prayer in chapter 6 verses 5-15. Even to the point of actually giving us a prayer to follow as an example. Almost every Christian can quote this prayer from memory. But have we REALLY looked at this prayer as a guide to all our prayers?
Consider this church; if Jesus actually gave us a guide line for our prayers shouldn’t we be following it?
The word says that: “Your Father knows the things you (we) have need of BEFORE you (we) ask Him.” (Matthew 6:8)
Now lets look at the prayer Jesus gave us all as an example. I’m going to take the liberty of quoting from Ferrar Fenton’s Bible in Modern English because it was translated from the Hebrew, Chalder and Greek languages and makes the understanding of the prayer simpler and it’s like I’m talking to my Father, Himself:
“Our Father in the Heavens; Your Name must be being Hallowed: Your kingdom must be being restored. Your Will must be being done both in Heaven and upon the Earth. Give us today our tomorrows bread; and forgive us our faults, as we forgive those offending us, for You would not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from its evil.”
First of all, Church, this prayer is not directed to mankind, but is pointing to the Creator of everything. Our Father Who loves us enough to want us with Him as a united Family. Even though we have sinned and turned our backs on Him again and again. Hence, the very first line of the prayer.
Everything MUST be pointing to our Father in our lives and in our prayers. His Name is to always be praised. God’s Kingdom must be restored from Adam and Eve’s sin. God’s will is to have Earth as it is in Heaven. Like it will be in the “New Heaven and Earth” in the end of God’s Plan for mankind.
If we are allowing God’s Spirit to flow in us, He will be providing “bread” food, both physically and spiritually for His children. And most IMPORTANTLY: God can deliver us from evil when we, with our hearts, ask for forgiveness for ourselves and for those who may be offending us. Christ has already made an open passage way to the Father through his death and resurrection in taking away our sins. God cannot “Look” on sin but He “sees” us through His Son’s Blood Sacrifice. God doesn’t lead us into temptation – we put ourselves into that place by putting “self” forward before God or allowing the enemy rule over our flesh and emotions and not trusting God for Who he is.
Think about this prayer, Church. Put it as a daily example of our worship to our Father in all things.
To God be all the Glory and Praise.
