In the first chapters of Matthew, Jesus also talked about our charitable deeds.  Even back when Jesus walked this earth He knew that mankind had a tendency to uplift self.  Listen to what He had to say on this subject.

 

 

Matthew 6:1-4

Vs 1     “Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be                  seen by them.  Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in                          Heaven.”

Vs2      “Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet                        before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets,                    that they may have glory from men.  Assuredly, I say to you,   they have                their reward.

Vs3      “But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what               your right had is doing.

Vs4      “That your charitable deed may be in secret: and your Father who sees                  in secret will himself reward you openly.”

 

            Charitable deeds can include a lot of things, first is usually money, then our service; it can even include our love.  And it deals with giving it away.  Hence, the giving of something that others don’t have or don’t have enough of.

 

            Money or our finances, is usually the first thing that comes to mind when talking about charitable deeds.  Even tithing is a charitable deed because the church is supposed to be giving it to the poor.  But some say “I don’t make enough to tithe”.  But let’s consider “Who” gave us that job or position and is able to increase or multiply what we give FREELY out of our Blessings.  And the word freely here is that key to being blessed again.  Even if you don’t have a job and are getting things from someone or an organization, you can still tithe those things, you can share your food or clothing with others in need.  When you do it freely and from your heart is when God Blesses even more.  We can’t out Bless God!  Even our love can be a charitable deed.  The Love God gave us can be given out to others who don’t think they have anyone to love them.  More and more this kind of charitable deed is missing in these last days.

 

            Now let’s get back to how Jesus closed this part of His sermon on charitable deeds.  Let our charitable deeds be done in secret because that is where God sees them.  It is way too easy to get self up-lifted when doing things for others “If” our mind is on “what we have done!”  “It’s not a “self” thing!”

Look at people who have won the lotto.  Most of them are broke again and back where they started in no time.  Yes, I know before it all happened the mind says “I’m going to give this to the church and this to the poor and this much to research or what ever charity needs it.”  But, does it happen?  Not usually.  Self and the enemy comes in and takes hold with pride, self-indulgence and self importance.  Hence the “secret” part of this lesson comes in from our Father.  If we do it in secret our Father will see and “Himself” reward you openly.

 

          How much better is up-lifting God than up-lifting self!!! How much better is glorifying God than glorifying self!!!  How much better is God’s Love than mans love!!! There is no comparison in any one of these statements.  God is God and we are His children and Family.

 

    Think about it church and then put God’s Love into action for His Glory!!!
