Ruling our Spirit

Good morning Church. Today I was in Proverbs reading about what the Lord says about relationships. Proverbs chapter 25 and 26 are all about relationships: relationships with kings, with enemies, with yourself, with fools, with sluggards, with gossips. It was so very interesting I believe you need to read it for yourself to grasp the essence of what He is trying to tell us, Church.

Let me tell you the verse that caught my attention. It was under the heading of: Relationships with Yourself. Whoa! A relationship with myself? O. K. Lord, help me to understand that statement.

In chapter 25 of Proverbs there are 4 verses under that heading, verses 25, 26, 27 and 28. My attention was caught with verse 28 but let’s go over parts of the other verses first.

Proverbs 25:25

“As cold water to a weary soul, so is good news from a far country.”

How refreshing is a nice cold glass of water to someone who is hot, thirsty and tired? A Blessing-right? Well let’s put that in the spiritual setting: How refreshing is God’s Word (cold water) to a weary, tired soul? A Blessing!

Proverbs 25:26

“A righteous man who falters before the wicked is like a murky spring and a polluted/ruined well.”

We were made righteous when we accepted God’s Son as our Lord and Savior, we also have the Power and Authority of a righteous man of God to help us deal with “ALL” wickedness and unrighteousness. Faltering is not an option here.

Proverbs 25:27

“It is not good to eat much honey; so to seek one’s own glory is not glory.”

To indulge in our own selfishness and ways is like overeating to satisfy our bodies wants to over eat when we are already full, we will grow fat and lazy, and stagnant.

Last but not least is verse 28.

Proverbs 25:28

“Whoever has no rule over his own spirit is like a city broken down, without walls.”

How did the people in the old testament protect their cities from enemy invasions? A wall of course. And in Proverbs 16:32 it tells us how powerful we can be when we keep our spirits in unity with God’s Spirit “in” us.

Proverbs 16:32

“He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, (Proverbs 14:29; 19:11) and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.”

Keeping our Born Again Spirit in “UNITY” with the Holy Spirit “IN” us is our fountain of Life through Christ. It is our Power, Authority, and Right through Christ to rule over any negative or evil; self or Satan induced. God gave us our own free wills to say (and believe) “YES” to righteousness and “NO” to unrighteousness. “YES” to TRUTH (God) and “NO” to lies (anything other than God)

That Saints, is ruling our own spirit through Christ. We can do this!  How?     By:

Trusting and Believing in God’s Love for us.
