Confronting Apostasy

Greetings Church. I was reading in 2 Timothy this morning and came across, I believe a lesson from the past, and it caught my attention again. Probably because of what we see that is happening in the world right now. And maybe even what seems to be happening in our own lives as we get closer to our Lord coming back for us.

First let’s get the definition of the word apostasy. The dictionary says the word is a noun and means, “a complete forsaking of one’s religion, faith, political party, or principles.” So it is a forsaking or turning away from one’s religion, faith, or principles. Sound familiar? Like now in the world?

In 2 Timothy, Paul is warning Timothy that his teaching will come under attack as men desert the truth for ‘ear itching words’(4:3). But Timothy has Paul’s example and Faith in God’s Word to fortify him in his walk in Christ and for others.

In verses 10-13 in 2 Timothy 3, Paul and God are telling us what was and still is happening in the world and how we are to be coming against it and how God will deliver us—as He did Paul.

Paul is also reminding Timothy of what he had to endure throughout his ministry and that Timothy carefully followed his doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, long suffering, love, perseverance, persecutions, afflictions; which God had delivered him out of even though evil men and impostors were and are growing worse and worse in deceiving and being deceived. Just like now.

Now, the best part comes in verses 14-17 as it starts out:

“But as for you...” That is “us” Church, God’s Family-you and me! I’ll quote the Word here: (God has given us His Word to learn from)

2 Timothy 3: 14-17

“But as for you (us), continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from Whom you have learned them, and that from childhood (new Christian) you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through Faith which is in Christ Jesus.”

We need to remember that:

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction (training, discipline) in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

The title of this writing is ‘Confronting Apostasy’ and we can only do this if “we” Believe in the Word, Who is Jesus Christ, Who He came from, the Father and Who is “IN” us as Born Again Christians; that is the Holy Spirit—God’s Spirit.

Life is going to throw us a lot of curves and deceptions while we are here for our ‘season’, but Believing in our hearts who WE are “IN” Christ is knowing where we will be for-forever—with our Father!                                         GLORY!

And how can we do this?     By:

Trusting and Believing in God’s Love for us.
