And our journey through it.
Sin-Sacrifice-Covenant
What a Blessed morning God has given to us today despite the worlds situation at this time in God’s Plan. It puts me in mind of the Book of Hebrews. Let me explain, Church.
The Book of Hebrews was written to the Hebrew Jewish Christians: Born Again Jews. The authorship of Hebrews is still in question today but the writer of Hebrews exhorts them to “go on to perfection”. (Hebrews 6:1) The writers appeal is based on the superiority of Christ over the Judaic system.
The Christian Jew was persecuted to the point of death at these times and many were wavering in their faith. The author of Hebrews saw this and wanted to check the downward spiral with “the word of exhortation”. (Hebrews 13:22)
The Book of Hebrews repeatedly put emphasis on the superiority of Christian covenant over Judaic covenant, not by putting down Judaism but by quoting words from the Old Testament about Christ and Who He was.
Now, with this said let’s go to the Book of Hebrews and actually read God’s Word.
In Hebrews chapter 9 Pastor Hagee again put sub-titles here to help us with understanding in the Word. Verses 1-5 was entitled ‘Old Covenant’s Sanctuary’ which described the tabernacle “the earthly sanctuary”, in which was the lamp stand, the table, and the showbread. Behind the second veil which was called ‘the Holiest of All’ was the golden altar of incense and the ark of the covenant which held the golden pot that had the manna, Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tablets of the covenant; and above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat.
Verses 6-10 was entitled ‘Old Covenant’s Sacrifice’ where when things had been prepared, the priests always went into the first part of the tabernacle, performing ‘the services’.
Hebrews 9:7-10
“But into the second part the high priest went alone once a year, not without blood, which he offered for himself and for the people’s sins committed in ignorance; the Holy Spirit indicating this, that the way into the Holiest of All was not yet made manifest while the first tabernacle was still standing.
It was “symbolic” for the present time in which both gifts and sacrifices are offered which cannot make him who performed the services perfect in regard to the conscience-concerned only with foods and drinks, various washings, and fleshly ordinances imposed until the time of reformation.”
Now Church, the next sub-title has only one verse in it but it is the most powerful verse for the Jews and us:
Hebrews 9:11 (New Covenant’s Sanctuary)
“But Christ came as High Priest of the good things that have come (Hebrew 10:1) with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is not of this creation.” Verses 12-18 (New Covenant’s Sacrifice) is to be read with Holy Spirit’s care and insight, Saints.
Hebrews 9: 12-18 (Remember this is describing Christ as High Priest)
“Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood. He entered the Most Holy Place Once for All, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, purge (cleanse) your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance. For where there is a testament, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. For a testament is in force after men are dead, (Galatians 3:15) since it has not power at all while the testator lives. Therefore not even the first covenant was dedicated without blood. “without shedding of blood there is no remission.” (verse 22) This is the law.
We need to read the rest of Chapter 9 and chapter 10 verses 1-18 for the whole and complete picture of the sin, sacrifice and covenant of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 10:12-14
“But this Man, (Jesus Christ) after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.”
Are you sanctified with the Blood of Christ through repentance and acceptance of His death and Life? The only way we can be with our Father God for forever is through His Son, Jesus Christ.
Remember Church, this letter was written over 2000 years ago BUT is still in effect; as is our covenant now, today, from our Father in Heaven.
